McAndrews Rd. [2004
- present]
Dawson’s home and building project is this
timber framed, straw bale house. There is also a timber framed sleeping
cabin, and timber and wattle-and-daub outhouse. With no power lines
nearby the buildings will be off grid, powered by sun and wind.
In June 2009, the timber frame was raised by hand
by a group of friends, neighbours, and intereted people, like a
traditional barn raising bee. The straw work was completed in the
fall and the outside plastered just before the freeze with the help
of more friends and helpers. The inside has its 2nd earthen plaster
coat, earthen slab floor (with in-floor heating), local pine flooring
upstairs. Board and batten siding (where it isn't plastered) outside.
The timber framed cabin was built in 2004, by
hand, using hand tools. It was also raised by hand raising-bee style.
It has most of teh conveniences of home tucked into 200 square feet.
Look for updates!
