This old log farmhouse was built around 1830.
Although it had been neglected and treated to some very bizarre
renovations, it was essentially sound when we bought it in 2001.
Since then Kris has been engaged in an ongoing and never-ending
journey to renovate, restore and update this house so it is comfortable
(i.e. warm in winter), safe, and beautiful. Kris' dad says this
house has given him a better understanding of the concept of infinity.
The truth is (although the resolve has been known to waver) that
the greenest house is an old house that is reinsulated, sealed,
has a new furnace...
There are on-going renovations on this log farmhouse.
The summer kitchen that was a woodshed has been transformed into
a dining area with a porch with timber framed roof support. Earthen
plaster has been applied over existing accordion lath on a kitchen
wall.
One hopes the work will shepherd this house through
the next hundred and fifty years when a new set of hands will tear
things apart and wonder at the silliness and labour that happened
at the turn of the millennium.
