Lowry Residence. Orillia, Ontario [2007]
Dwellings was contracted to supply the red oak
timber frame truss roof system out of locally harvested timber.
Three truss styles were used: king post with struts, live-edged
scissor, and arched brace trusses, with purlins filling out the
roof frame.
The rest of the house includes strawbale construction,
some earthen plastered walls, radiant heat floor, a real stone masonry
heater with bake oven, wood, solar, and propane water heating, grid-tied
solar power, a rain water catchment system, pine and cedar wrap-around
porch with round cedar posts. |
